What is Tongits?
Tongits is a traditional Filipino card game that has captured the hearts of millions across the Philippines. Played with a standard 52-card deck, this exciting game combines elements of skill, strategy, and luck. The objective is simple yet challenging: reduce your hand value by forming sets (three or four of a kind) and runs (three or more consecutive cards of the same suit), while avoiding being caught with high points when another player declares "Tongits" or "Draw."
What makes Tongits special is its unique blend of strategy and psychology. Players must decide when to drop cards, challenge opponents, or play conservatively. The game's social nature brings friends and families together, making it a staple at gatherings, fiestas, and casual get-togethers throughout the Philippines.
At Tables Game, we've digitized this beloved Filipino pastime, preserving its authentic rules while adding modern features like Tables Game app access, real-time multiplayer, and secure gameplay. Join thousands of Filipino players enjoying Tongits online anytime, anywhere!
How to Play Tongits
Setup and Dealing
Tongits is typically played with 3 players using a standard 52-card deck. Each player receives 12 cards, while the dealer gets 13. The remaining cards form the draw pile, and one card is placed face-up to start the discard pile.
Forming Combinations
On your turn, draw one card from either the draw pile or discard pile. Then, form sets (three or four of a kind) or runs (three+ consecutive same-suit cards). You may also connect cards to existing melds on the table. Finally, discard one card to end your turn.
Declaring Tongits or Draw
If your hand is completely melded, declare "Tongits" to win immediately. If you believe your unmelded cards have the lowest value, challenge a player who hasn't opened by declaring "Draw." The player with the lowest hand value wins!
Scoring and Winning
Card values: Face cards (J, Q, K) = 10 points, Aces = 1 point, numbered cards = face value. The winner scores the total value of all opponents' unmelded cards. Practice makes perfect—learn the strategies at Tables Game!

Pro Tongits Strategies & Tips
Card Counting is Key
Keep track of cards that have been played, especially high-value cards and those you need to complete melds. This helps you calculate the probability of drawing useful cards and predict opponents' hands.
Timing Your Declarations
Don't rush to declare "Draw." Assess your opponents' behavior—if they're drawing from the discard pile aggressively, they likely have strong hands. Wait for the optimal moment when your unmelded cards are minimal.
Defensive Play
Sometimes it's better to play defensively. Discard cards that opponents might need rather than holding onto them. Breaking up potential melds in your hand can prevent opponents from capitalizing on your discards.
Observe Opponent Patterns
Watch which cards opponents pick from the discard pile and what they discard. Aggressive players are close to melding, while conservative players are building long-term strategies. Adjust your tactics accordingly.
Know When to Challenge
Only declare "Draw" if you're confident your hand value is the lowest. Calculate your unmelded cards' value quickly—J, Q, K count as 10, Aces as 1. If your total is under 10 and opponents have been drawing heavily, challenge!
